Wallachians and Wallachia in Konstantin Mihailović of Ostrovitsa’s Memoires

Abstract

Konstantin Mihailović of Ostrovitsa’s memoires, written between 1490 and 1498, include references to Romanians and their countries, which are worthy of study. For instance, at the time when the author lived in the Ottoman Empire and was a member of the Janissary Corps, he was able, among others, to note an affirmation attributed to Sultan Mehmed II. According to the sultan, the Turks had to conquer Kilia, Akkerman and Belgrade in order to keep sustainable control on South-Eastern Europe.

Keywords
