The Flag of Stephen the Great from Zographou Monastery. French Echoes and Romanian Significations in the Context of 1917–1918

Abstract

Already well-known and discussed in the Romanian historiography, the problem of the flag of Stephen the Great from Zographou Monastery from Mount Athos is presented here from other points of view. The perspective of the present article is that of the history of the written press and it documents the way the French press presented and interpreted the event dedicated to the presentation of the flag to the representatives of the Romanian Kingdom to Paris. The paper also documents how the event was reflected in Romania in 1917–1918.
