Abstract
Putna Monastery’s Register of Manuscripts and Printed Books from March 2/14, 1843, was compiled during the tenure of abbot Gennadius Zaharovici on the commission of the Consistory from Cernăuți. Most probably the register was compiled by riassaphore-monk Sevastian Gheorghiescu, the future vicar of the monastery, who at that time was the registrar. The document has eight folios and records about 275 titles of manuscripts and printed books from the 15th to 19th centuries. Beside the books of the monastery the register includes books that were brought to Putna from Humor and Solca monasteries, from the Great Skete (Maniava), from Putna Hermitage Skete and from the church from Hotin after these were closed by the Habsburg administration. The register also records books that were no longer in the monastery at the time but in the Putna village’s church (borrowed or donated, one cannot tell) or in private collections.
