The Mission of Jan Ossolinski and Lower Moldavia at the End of the Reign of Stephen the Great

Abstract

The study analyses Jan Ossolisnki’s diplomatic mission to Moldavia in August 1504, aimed at regaining Pokuttya for Poland. In the case of a negative answer from the Moldavian ruler, the emissary was mandated to contact the inhabitants of Lower Moldavia and assure them of Poland and Hungary’s support for the return of their territory under the rule of Wallachia, which would have led to internal political instability in Moldavia.
