Stephen “the Old” in the Chronicle of Giacomo di Pietro Luccari

Abstract

The chronicle of Giacomo di Pietro Luccari from 1601 mentions twice “Stefano Batrin”, none other than Stephen the Great of Moldavia. A compared analysis of the data provided by this historical writing on Wallachia and Moldavia leads us to the idea of the existence of a first parallel chronicle, in Romanian, written for the use of prince Petru Șchiopul, the first Wallachian ruler to climb on the throne of Moldavia in 1574.

Keywords

Giacomo di Pietro Luccari, Moldavian dynasty, parallel chronicle, the old Stephen voivode
